“My name is Tina (name changed), and I have lived with HIV for the past 24 years. I contracted HIV in a blood transfusion during heart surgery in 1984. I lived for over 20 years without taking my HIV medication. I convinced myself that I could never have a “normal” life and that my life was meaningless. I finally became a fighter at age 25 and I am now a healthy adult. Against all odds, I have made it to my 28th birthday and I hope to see a cure for HIV in my lifetime. I have been married for 4 years to a man without HIV. And we desperately want to have healthy children.”
